Newspaper Headlines: Senate suspends move to override Buhari on electoral bill

The decision of the senate to suspend the move to override the veto of President Muhammadu Buhari on the electoral act amendment bill dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the senate backed down on overriding President Muhammadu Buhari on the electoral bill. The newspaper says petrol subsidy rose to N1.16 trillion in 11 months.
Daily Sun says the house of representatives has passed a N17.126 trillion budget for 2022. The newspaper says David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi, has inaugurated the south-east security network codenamed ‘Ebube Agu’ in Ebonyi.

The Daily Independent says the senate will respond to the concerns raised by Buhari on the adoption of direct primary in the electoral bill in January. The newspaper reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) scuttled the electoral bill for fear of 2023.
The Guardian reports that Nigeria recorded its highest single-day count of COVID-19 on Tuesday with 2,123 cases. The newspaper says gunmen abducted 70 traders on Kano-Kaduna road.
