Newspaper Headlines: Six killed in fresh Plateau attacks

The comment of President Muhammadu Buhari on the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation reports that President Muhammadu Buhari said Nigeria lost $50 billion investment in 10 years, owing to lack of a legal framework in the oil sector. The newspaper says gunmen killed 17 people in Zamfara and Plateau states.
The Punch says the state governments will, today, tackle the federal government on their concerns about the PIA. The newspaper reports that reactions have trailed the proposal of Aminu Masari, governor of Katsina, for residents to carry guns to protect themselves.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) said the PIA will start yielding positive results from 2023, Daily Independent reports. The newspaper says the court has rejected the federal government’s plea to dismiss the suit of Sunday Adeyemo, a youth leader, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The Guardian says telecommunications revolution in the country over the past two decades has mustered 297 million telephone lines but failed on financial inclusion and security. The newspaper reports that Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau, convened a security meeting as six persons were killed in fresh attacks.
The Nigerian Tribune says the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled its local government congresses for September 4. FIRS said taxes from Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms will boost the N10.104 trillion revenue target in 2022, the newspaper reports.
