Newspaper Headlines: Six state governments spend N160bn on unviable airports

Reports on the outbreak of mpox in some states, and the crisis in the Labour Party, dominate the frontpages of the dailies.

The Punch reports that six state governments, including Ekiti, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Yobe, Nasarawa, and Bayelsa, have spent about N160 billion on airport projects that opposition politicians and aviation professionals classify as unviable. The newspaper says Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police, has promised that the police would rescue all Nigerians currently in kidnappers’ den.
The Nation reports that the military has dismissed calls for its intervention from a section of those who protested against economic crisis in August. The newspaper reports the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as saying that it will issue N2.2 billion treasury bills in the fourth quarter of 2024.
