Newspaper Headlines: States, private sector fault labour’s N1m minimum wage demand

Reports on the economic hardship facing many Nigerians, and the review of the national minimum wage, permeate the front pages today. 

The Punch reports that the federal government said it has begun talks with the government of the United States on the ongoing investigation of a chopper crash that claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc, his wife and son in California. The newspaper says the federal government said it will sanction power distribution companies that are performing below stipulated standards in the Nigeria electricity supply industry.
Daily Trust says Aminu Ado Bayero, Emir of Kano, has asked Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady, to tell President Bola Tinubu that the hardship in the country has reached alarming proportions. The newspaper says the military leaders of Niger Republic have vowed never to return to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The Guardian reports that the disparity between the number of issued national identification numbers (NINs) and the country’s population has raised doubts on Nigeria’s actual population size. The newspaper says the benchmark foreign exchange (FX) rate for computing import duties has been raised to N1,444.56/$.

THISDAY reports that Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa, has mourned the passing of Herbert Wigwe.
