Newspaper Headlines: Stella Oduah absconded, didn’t complete NYSC, says DG

The exit of Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his withdrawal from the party’s presidential primary dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that protests marred the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The newspaper says families of abducted Kaduna train passengers have begged President Muhammadu Buhari to secure the release of the hostages.
The Nation reports that associates of outgoing governors clinched PDP tickets for elective positions in the 2023 elections. The newspaper says the exit of Obi from the PDP dims hope for a south-east presidential candidate in the party.
Daily Trust reports that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) disclosed that Stella Oduah, senator representing Anambra north, did not complete the mandatory one-year scheme. The newspaper says Mahmood Yakubu,  chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said the trend of inducing delegates with money for primaries is pushing Nigeria towards plutocracy.
Daily Independent says accusations of manipulation of delegates lists have trailed the governorship primaries of PDP. The newspaper reports that Ohanaeze Ndigbo has bemoaned the incessant killings in the south-east.
The Guardian says Peter Obi is eyeing the presidential ticket of the Labour Party or the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) following his exit from the PDP. The newspaper reports that the presidency has asked Nigerians to exercise restraint in sharing viral videos attributed to killings in the south-east.
