Newspaper Headlines: Doctors’ strike halts activities in hospitals, and price of beer soars

The impact of the strike by resident doctors on hospitals and patients dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers. The comment of Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy, that citizens without national identity number (NIN) may face jail terms also made the headlines.

Business Day says President Muhammadu Buhari overlooks the growing world-class hospitals in the country by his preference for foreign hospitals. The newspaper says there is a hike in the price of beer owing to the high cost of production and inflammatory environment for brewers.
The Guardian reports that the strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) paralysed activities in public hospitals as patients groan. The World Health Organisation and Africa Center for Disease Control (CDC) have warned against a surge in COVID-19 cases as Christians celebrate Easter.

The newspaper reports that five soldiers, a civil defence officer and five others were killed in an attack in some communities in Niger state.
