Newspaper Headlines: Tension, anxiety as Nigerians await presidential election results

Reports on the announcement of the presidential and national assembly elections dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the results of the presidential election so far declared indicate that Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won in Ekiti state while Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won in Osun state.
Daily Trust reports that Tinubu and Atiku would most likely meet the constitutional requirement of 25 percent of total votes cast in 24 states and the federal capital territory (FCT). The newspaper says the presidential and national assembly elections have continued to record twists and upsets as more political gladiators have lost their bases to their rivals while others battled to win.
The Nation reports that the APC presidential campaign council has called for calm as Nigerians are waiting for the announcement of the election results. The newspaper says the country’s rising oil production has raised the hope of funding the 2023 budget.
THISDAY reports that tension is high across the country as Nigerians await the results of the presidential and the national assembly elections. The newspaper says the PDP has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to call Tinubu and APC to order for claiming victory.
Daily Sun reports that police have warned Nigerians to stop circulating fake election results. The newspaper says Ohanaeze Ndigbo has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to allow itself to be used in subverting the wish of Nigerians as expressed in the presidential and national assembly elections.
