Newspaper Headlines: Tension in Osun ahead of Saturday’s APC guber primary election

The arrest of Abba Kyari, suspended deputy commissioner of police, for alleged drug dealing dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that DCP Kyari and four other police officers are currently in the custody of the NDLEA for alleged illicit drug business. The newspaper says Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, has named Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan.
Daily Independent reports that the federal government has been criticised for allowing the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to embark on strike. The newspaper says governors of the People Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed worry over delay in President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent to the revised electoral act amendment bill.
The Guardian says ASUU has rejected the appointment of Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy, as a professor. The newspaper says the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has relocated key management staff to Lagos in search of a sustainable solution to the lingering petrol scarcity.
Nigerian Tribune reports that zoning and consensus have stalled the sale of forms to aspirants vying for national executive positions in the All Progressives Congress (APC). The newspaper says Kulu Aliyu, the chief judge of Zamfara, has inaugurated a committee to investigate the allegations levelled against Mahdi Gusau, deputy governor of the state, by the house of assembly.
The Nation says there are strong indications that DCP Kyari will be extradited to the United States after probe by the NDLEA. The newspaper says tension is mounting in Osun ahead of Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election.
