Newspaper Headlines: Tinubu orders database clean-up as FG uncovers 6,000 Nigeriens with NIN

Reports on the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the spate of insecurity across the country perfuse the frontpages. 

The Punch reports that some prominent businessmen in the south-east geopolitical zone have begun moves to fight against criminals who have made life unbearable for residents and investors. The newspaper said the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has identified over 6,000 Nigeriens registered on its database with the national identification number (NIN).
The Nation reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested Usman Jibrin, former chief of naval staff, and Adam Yusuf, a deputy commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi state, over the alleged diversion of more than N3 billion. The newspaper says the board of trustees (BoT) of the PDP has come under attack for backing Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s national secretary.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled PDP national secretary, has alleged that governors of the party are plotting to form a new political party. The newspaper says bandits have abducted an Imam and some worshippers at a mosque in Bushe, Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto state.
The Guardian reports that Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, and Rotimi Amaechi, ex-governor of Rivers, are two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with an axe to grind against the ruling party. The newspaper says Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti, said some Nigerians are more concerned with “stomach infrastructure” than better policies.
