Newspaper Headlines: Tinubu plans 500,000 hectares of farmland to battle food shortage

Reports on the state of emergency on food security and the release of grains to households and farmers, dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on food security in the country. The newspaper says the senate has confirmed the appointment of the service chiefs nominated by Tinubu.
Daily Trust reports that senators and members of the house of representatives will get N70 billion to enhance their working conditions. The newspaper says the Labour Party (LP) and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have disagreed over the call for the sack and prosecution of Mahmood Yakubu, chairperson of the electoral umpire.
The Guardian reports how some roads in Lagos are in deplorable condition despite the huge revenue realised by the state government. The newspaper says the Department of State Services (DSS) has dragged Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to court.
THISDAY reports that the ministry of finance incorporated (MOFI) has expressed its determination to work towards a N100 trillion capital target by unlocking liquidity from the country’s idle assets. The newspaper says Vice-President Kashim Shettima has asked Nigerians to recognise the great green wall initiative as an emergency rescue operation to save humanity from the effects of climate change.
Daily Sun reports that Tinubu has promised to rescue Nigeria from vested interest. The newspaper says the federal government is set to establish modern ranches in collaboration with states.
