Newspaper Headlines: Tinubu sends emissaries to northern leaders over tax bills

President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Enugu and the controversy trailing the tax reform bills are the major issues on the front pages of Nigerian newspapers today.

The Punch reports that Tinubu has started sending emissaries to the northern elite to clear the way for the passage of the tax reform bills. The newspaper says Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with Australia are facing potential strain following the travel advisories issued by both nations.

 

The Nation reports that the federation account allocation committee (FAAC) disbursed N5.38 trillion to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between January and December 2024. The newspaper says the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has asked the federal government to privatise state-owned refineries.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the labour unions have asked the federal and state governments to implement policies that are favourable to all Nigerians. The newspaper says residents of Odo Ape community in Kabba-Bunu LGA of Kogi state on Saturday blocked the Lokoja-Kabba federal highway after two farmers were killed by gunmen.
Vanguard reports that traders in the south-east geopolitical zone have appealed to Tinubu to dismantle the numerous checkpoints along the highways leading to the zone. The newspaper says the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an urgent alert to healthcare providers and the public about a suspected counterfeit cancer drug — Phesgo 600mg/600mg/10ml injection.
