Newspaper Headlines: Tracking device shortage hindering police probes of kidnappings, banditry

Reports on the withdrawal of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso from ECOWAS, and the inauguration of the minimum wage committee, permeate the front pages. 

The Punch reports that there are strong indications that a shortage of tracking equipment is hindering police investigations into kidnapping incidents in the country. The newspaper says the federal government has unveiled a 37-member tripartite committee to look into the implementation of the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
Daily Trust reports that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) said it was ready for a “negotiated solution” after Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger Republic opted out of the regional economic bloc. The Nation says six people, including four children, were killed on Saturday when an explosive device collected by metal scavengers exploded in Borno state.
The Guardian reports that the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the re-launch of Kano to Lagos train service, known as the 2LL. The newspaper says the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked governors to account for over N40 trillion allocations to the local government areas.
THISDAY reports that the federal government said Indian businesses that pledged $14 billion in new investments in Nigeria during the G20 Summit in India, have started making good on their pledges. The newspaper says a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) said the value of the Nigerian currency fell as much as 98 percent due to the decision of the federal government to collapse the foreign exchange market into a single investors and exporters (I&E) window in 2023.

Vanguard reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima said corruption is responsible for insecurity and banditry in the northern region of the country. The newspaper says the federal government will inaugurate the minimum wage committee on Tuesday.
