Newspaper Headlines: Twitter ban worsens economic problems

The killing of at least 11 persons in Igangan, Ibarapa north LGA, Oyo state by herdsmen dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that economic experts have warned that the suspension of Twitter will further compound economic problems and lead to loss of jobs.
Daily Independent reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is considering a $2.5 billion loan from Afreximbank for a stake in Dangote refinery. The newspaper says banks’ constant visits to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) standing lending facility window is indicative of trouble in the system.
The Nation reports that south-west governors have approved the joint operation of Amotekun owing to the killing in Igangan, Ibarapa north LGA, Oyo state. The newspaper says Babagana Monguno, the national security adviser, ordered the dissolution of illegal security outfits.
THISDAY says senior advocates of Nigeria (SANs) faulted the comment of Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), that those using Twitter in the country despite the ban will be prosecuted. The newspaper reports that despite a ban on open grazing in the southern part of the country, the practice still continues.
The Nigerian Tribune says there is outrage in Igangan over the killing of 11 persons by herdsmen. The newspaper reports that the death of TB Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), brought tears and shock to his followers.
The Guardian reports that the country has lost N7.5 billion in three days owing to the ban on Twitter. The newspaper says deplorable facilities at international airports have raised safety concerns.
