Reports on the political crisis in Rivers, and the direct purchase of petrol from Dangote Petrochemical Refinery by marketers, suffuse the frontpages of the newspapers.
The Punch reports that major oil marketers will begin the direct purchase of petrol from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. The newspaper says the federal government, through the office of the head of civil service of the federation, has commenced the process of appointing new permanent secretaries to fill vacancies in eight states.Daily Trust reports that Lagos, Jigawa, Kano, Oyo and four other states are leading in the number of fatalities from cholera since the beginning of 2024. According to the newspaper, Boko Haram terrorists killed two soldiers and a village head during an ambush in Borno.Vanguard reports that Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, said oil production in the state will be threatened if violence continues in the state. The newspaper says a federal high court in Abuja has declared Julius Abure as the substantive chair of the Labour Party (LP).Nigerian Tribune reports that Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), said obeying the rule of law will prevent the violence in Rivers state. The newspaper says the supreme court has fixed October 22 to hear a suit on the law establishing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
