Newspaper Headlines: Wike’s camp heads to court over Rivers LG polls

Reports on the swearing-in of newly elected local government chairpersons in Rivers, and the political crisis in the state, permeate the frontpages of Nigerian dailies.
The Punch reports that loyalists of Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), are planning to approach the court over the conduct of Saturday’s LGA election in Rivers. The newspaper says the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited may begin the supply of crude oil in naira to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery this week, following the announcement by the federal government that the naira-for-crude deal has commenced.
Daily Trust reports that multi-billion naira illicit arms entered Nigeria 23 times in seven years. The newspaper says the federal government has threatened to revoke the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway contract if Julius Berger Plc fails to accept the N740.7 billion approved by the federal executive council (FEC) for completion of the remaining section of the road.
The Guardian reports that Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, has sworn in newly elected LG chairpersons after Saturday’s election in the state. The newspaper says stakeholders have raised concerns over the fair value of the naira, following the $20 billion intervention from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The Nation says a report from Agora Policy, a think thank, has highlighted the need for the review of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) to address the provisions that reduce revenue accruable to the federating units.
