Newspaper Headlines: Southern, northern politicians in PDP disagree over presidential ticket

The release of Alwan Hassan, acting managing director of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), by terrorists after he was kidnapped during an attack on Kaduna train dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently battling a crisis over the refusal of the southern and northern politicians to agree on zoning of the party’s presidential ticket. The newspaper reports that two persons have died in an accident that involved the convoy of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Nation reports that Ohanaeze Ndigbo has criticised the PDP for refusing to zone its presidential ticket to the southern part of the country. The newspaper says terrorists have threatened to kill persons abducted from the Kaduna train attack.

Nigerian Tribune says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given an estimate of 90 million voters for the 2023 elections. The newspaper reports that acting managing director of BOA has been released by his abductors after being kidnapped during the Kaduna train attack.
Daily Trust reports that 11 schoolgirls of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi state are still being held by their abductors after 10 months of being kidnapped. The newspaper says Lai Mohammed, minister of information, has asked his supporters to return to the APC.
