NFF bans Eagles coach for one year over ‘cash gift’

Salisu Yusuf, Super Eagles coach, has been banned from all football-related activities for a year.

A source in the ethics and fair play committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) told TheCable that Salisu has been found guilty of receiving “cash gift” to field two players at the 2018 CHAN competition in Morocco.

Salisu was also promised 15 percent of the players’ contract fee if they are signed by a foreign club. The two players are Osas Okoro and Rabiu Ali.

The NFF committee also directed the coach to pay $5,000 as fine within three months.

The committee said Salisu’s action “was not an error of judgment,” describing it as “a conscious and deliberate decision”.

It, however, said it could not establish whether his conduct influenced the choice of the two players.

Members of the committee were Nuhu Ribadu (chairman), Mainasara Illo, Justin Okoroji and Joshua Onoja (secretary).

The video clip of the transaction, which was made public by BBC African Eye on July 24, showed the coach receiving the sum of $1000 from undercover reporters led by Anas Arameyaw Anas.

The meeting took place in Ghana during the 2017 WAFU Cup where Nigeria finished second after losing the final 4-1 to the host country.
