The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are disappointed that the country’s women national team, the Super Falcons, won’t be in Brazil for the 2016 Olympic football tournament.
The team drew the first leg of the qualifier against Equatorial Guinea in Abuja two weeks ago but suffered a 2-1 defeat in the return leg on Sunday to crash out 3-2 on aggregate.
They have now failed to qualify for back-to-back Olympic Games as they were also beaten to the 2011 ticket by Cameroon.
“It’s an unfortunate disappointment,” NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire, told BBC Sport.

“The NFF made strong effort to ensure qualification, but the first leg result proved a mountain to climb in Bata.
“They missed seven key players who were unavailable due to club engagements or injuries, but that is football.”
Equatorial Guinea will now play-off against South Africa for a place in the Olympics while Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire fight for the other African ticket.
