NFF secretary sure Eagles would bounce back

The general secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Musa Amadu, has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles would bounce back from Saturday’s shock defeat to Congo and qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Morocco.

Speaking at the NFF secretariat in Abuja on Monday, Amadu called on football fans to continue supporting the team while not losing faith in them.

“We quite understand that Nigerians were disappointed in the result of the match against the Red Devils from Congo,” he said.

“But there are five more matches in the qualifying series and we see Saturday’s loss as a wake-up call for the African champions.

“The boys themselves have realised that they have to now double their efforts to get to the finals in Morocco, and that is what they have promised for Wednesday’s match against South Africa in Cape Town.”

Saturday’s 3-2 loss was the Eagles’ first home defeat in competitive games in 33 years, since the 2-0 loss to Algeria in a 1982 World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium, Lagos.

Nigeria will play Sudan (away and home) in October and then travel to Brazzaville before hosting South Africa in November.
