The Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), a non-profit organisation, has launched climate flash cards to enhance climate awareness and protect the environment.

The organisation, in collaboration with Tolulope Gbenro, a climate activist, launched the flash cards during a climate education workshop organised for Kwara-based school teachers.

Educators from 24 schools across Kwara were present at the training which took place in Ilorin, the state capital.

Abideen Olasupo, BBYDI global director, said the workshop was aimed at creating climate awareness among the teachers.

Olasupo said climate education plays a critical role in advancing climate actions to address various environmental challenges facing Nigeria and the world.

Olasupo said the climate flash cards were specifically designed for primary and secondary school students to transform the way they learn about climate change and environmental protection.

Teachers were also provided with climate champion flashcards and had the chance to brainstorm on how to tailor the project to their schools’ specific needs.

He said that BBYDI would follow up with teachers over the next few months to assess their progress, collect reports, and offer additional opportunities.

Olasupo added that the organisation is committed to educating the public about climate change as well as inspiring action to protect the environment.

“The ultimate goal is to ensure that young children in Kwara and beyond have adequate awareness of climate issues and accessible strategies for taking action,” he said.

Also speaking, Gbenro said educational tools such as flash cards are important in creating awareness about environmental protection and instilling climate consciousness in young learners.
