Securecycle Environmental and Climate Change Initiative (SECCI), a non-governmental organisation, has launched a green hive hub to advance environmental awareness.
Speaking in Ogun on Wednesday during the launch, Emmanuel Kilaso, SECCI project lead, said the launch became imperative to promote climate awareness and sustainable development in the state.
Kilaso emphasised the importance of collective action in preserving the environment, noting that Nigeria has what it takes to curb the climate crisis it is grappling with.
“The launch of Green Hive is a significant step towards promoting climate change awareness and driving sustainable development in Ogun state,” Kilaso said.

“The initiative’s comprehensive approach, involving various stakeholders, is expected to have a lasting impact on the local community and serve as a model for other regions in Nigeria.
“We open the hub as a space for climate change advocates, researchers, educators, youths and the general public to think of solutions and implement various projects focused on recycling, renewable energy, waste management, tree planting, curbing greenwashing among others.”
Fakeye Michael, an official of the Ogun state ministry of forestry, said the “project is a much needed initiative that will help address the pressing environmental challenges facing our state”.

“We are excited to collaborate with them and support their efforts to create a more sustainable and resilient environment,” Michael said.
The initiative, with support from the Ogun state government, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), aims at creating a robust platform for climate advocacy.
