NGOs partner to address climate change, agricultural challenges in Nigeria

FIST Africa and the Nigerian Center for Climate Resilience and Adaptation (NICCRRA) have announced plans to partner in addressing climate change and agricultural challenges in the country.

According to a statement on Wednesday, Ekwe Emmanuel, FIST Africa programme director and Abdullahi Geidam, NICCRRA executive director, signed the partnership agreement in Abuja.

The non-governmental organisations (NGOs) said the partnership aims at addressing the challenges posed by climate change as well as promoting sustainable agricultural practices in Nigeria.

The organisations said the partnership will focus on climate resilience, agricultural development and research initiatives to provide solutions to challenges.

“The collaboration will focus on climate resilience; implementing strategies to enhance the resilience of communities and ecosystems to the impacts of climate change,” the statement reads.

“Agricultural development; developing and implementing innovative agricultural projects that promote sustainable practices and improve food security.

“Research and knowledge sharing; engaging in joint research initiatives and knowledge-sharing activities to advance understanding and solutions for climate and agricultural challenges.”

Emmanuel expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that it would make an impact on communities across the country.

“This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to address the pressing issues of climate change and agricultural sustainability in Nigeria,” he said.

“By combining our strengths and expertise, FIST Africa and NICCRRA will make a lasting impact on the communities we serve.”

On his part, Geidam said: “We are excited to join forces with FIST Africa in tackling the complex issues of climate resilience and agricultural development.”

“This partnership represents a shared vision for a more sustainable and resilient future for Nigeria, and we look forward to the positive outcomes it will bring,” he added.
