NGOs to launch campaign on promoting civic engagement among youths

FIST Africa, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has partnered with the Madiba Foundation to promote patriotic attitudes among Nigerian youths.

In a statement on Thursday, the organisation said it will be launching a campaign to boost civic engagement among youths through digital technology.

The campaign ‘I Am The New Nigeria’ will be launched with the support of the MacArthur Foundation.

The campaign, which is a project of the Organisation for New Nigeria (OON), seeks to leverage the talents and creativity of young Nigerians to build a country that benefits all.

“The campaign will leverage the power of creative messaging and digital technology to instil core values like integrity, accountability, and respect for diversity among Nigerian youth,” the statement reads.

“Through compelling campaign materials designed in various formats, the initiative seeks to promote positive values and behavioural change.

“Encourage responsible and patriotic attitudes, reducing negative behaviours such as crime and violence.

“Increase civic engagement. Motivate active participation in civic activities, including voting, community development, and volunteerism.

“Boost national pride and foster a strong sense of identity and belonging to Nigeria. Shared ownership for a new Nigeria promotes shared responsibility for the country’s progress, moving beyond blame-shifting.”

The organisation said the campaign will be officially launched at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on May 30.
