Umar Bago, governor of Niger, has announced a seven-day Christmas holiday for all civil servants in the state.

Bago spoke on Wednesday during the end-of-the-year cutting of the cake with all members of the state executive council in Minna, the state capital.

He said the public holiday is for Christmas and new year celebrations.

He said the holiday would start from Friday, December 22 to January 1, 2024.

The governor said government officials in the state would also receive food items to be distributed to the poor and less privileged in their various wards and LGAs.

“Don’t stay in Minna, go and share food with the poor people in your local governments and wards,” he said.

The governor had earlier encouraged civil servants in the state to be farmers and dress “smartly” for offices.
