Niger gov: We need quality leadership to fix Nigeria

Abubakar Bello, governor of Niger state, says only leaders with the right positive qualities can put Nigeria on the right path to development.

The governor stated this at the opening ceremony of a three-day training for youths held at the Idris Legbo Kutigi international conference centre in Minna, the Niger capital.

The programme was organised by Lead Generation Initiative (LGI) in collaboration with the Niger government.

In a statement by Mary Noel-Berje, chief press secretary to the governor, Bello also called for better attitude perception among Nigerians, and said people must become empathetic.

“The quality of leadership, integrity and the character of whoever we vote for is what will fix this country,” he said.

“We have to work on our characters as human beings and we have to be nice to each other.”

On his part, Shina Peller, a federal lawmaker and chairman of the board of trustees of LGI, urged youths to get involved in governance by joining political parties of their choice and actively participating in the decision-making process.

Peller added that youth participants will be selected from each of the LGAs in the state to be trained on developmental efforts at the grassroots level.

He also commended the Niger state government for its support for the initiative, noting that such efforts contribute to eradicating poverty and creating societal inclusion.
