Nigeria claims title for world’s best scrabble team

Nigeria has been rated as the number one scrabble-playing nation in the world, with eight players in the global top 20.

The Nigerian team won nine out of 10 available awards at the recent West African Championship in Ghana.

At the event, Nigeria produced the championship’s most valuable player, Eta Oghenekaro, and also emerged as the best country.

Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development, received the scrabble team in his Abuja office on Monday.

In his remark, the minister lauded their heroics. Dare said the confidence displayed during their training sessions had resulted in their spectacular performance at the championship.

“I urge you to discover and groom young scrabble enthusiasts that will in no distant future replicate your feat to put Nigeria on the continental and world map of scrabble champions,” he said.

Ismaila Abubakar, the ministry’s permanent secretary, also hailed the team’s tenacity.

According to him, the team’s commitment and determination ensured they surmounted all odds to do the nation proud in Ghana.
