Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, has purchased all the tickets for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Pharaohs of Egypt, which kicks off on Friday at 5pm.
According to el-Rufai, the move is to enable residents of the city troop into the stadium to cheer the Nigerian team to victory without paying a dime.
Thousands of football fans in the city were seen struggling for the free ticket at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, venue of the match.
“Kaduna is a football city, having produced prominent international football stars; and it will always promote sports,” the governor said, adding that the state government plans to establish a sports academy to provide avenue for youths to develop their talents in sports.

El-Rufai will lead members of the state executive council to watch the match.
