Eagles move up in FIFA rankings as World Cup opponents drop

The Super Eagles of Nigeria moved up five spots in the latest FIFA world rankings.

The senior national team rose from 52nd to 47th position.

In Africa, the three-time Nations Cup champions climbed up from seventh to sixth position.

Nigeria’s World Cup Group D opponents dropped in the new rankings released on Thursday.

Argentina dropped from fourth to fifth, Croatia moved three places down from 15th to 18th while Iceland dropped from 18th to the 22nd position.

Germany maintained number one position in the world followed by Brazil.

The remaining top ten teams are Belgium (3), Portugal (4), Argentina (5), Switzerland (6), France (7), Spain (8) Chile (9) Poland (10).

The next FIFA world rankings will be released on May 17.
