Daniel Adekera, former spokesperson of the United Nations Peace Missions, has implored the federal government to revisit and articulate its foreign policy.
Adekera spoke on Friday at the annual lecture and cocktail organised by the Nigerian Air Force Officer’s Mess Honorary Members’ Forum (NAFOM-HMF).
The event held at the Sam Ethnam Air Base, Ikeja, Lagos.
Adekera spoke on the topic: ‘Interrogating Global Conflicts: Imminence of Third World War and Diminishing Influence of the United Nations’.

He posited that there is the likelihood of another world war due to the constant conflicts among nations.
The ex-officio of the UN said some countries like China and the United States would prefer not to engage in military confrontations but economic warfare.
Adekera also argued that global conflicts are often strategies by world powers to exert authorities over other nations and advance their economies.

He, however, said the Nigerian government must prioritise a viable foreign policy to earn the respect of the global community.
“We should call on experts when it comes to issues like foreign policies. Nigeria should be able to fill in for West Africa, Africa. We should come out with policies and plans to be able to advance our interests globally,” he said.
“In the 80s, and early 90s, anytime Nigeria sneezes, the whole Africa would catch cold. But it is not the case now.
“We now compete with countries like Burundi for positions. We have not been able to articulate our foreign policy. We have not maximised our resources.”
