Africa’s top table tennis player Aruna Quadri and Egyptian Omar Assar have defeated Nigerian duo Abiodun Bode and Ajetumobi Seun in the doubles event of the ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open.
Quadri and Assar on Friday won the men’s doubles game by three sets to one.
Although Abiodun and Ajetumobi started the game on the front foot by winning the first set, Quadri and Assar fought back to win the second and third sets.
Meanwhile, Quadri easily cruised past Bulgarian Andreev Yavor in his first game of the singles event.

The Nigerian ended Yavor’s journey at the tournament by winning the three sets with 11-2 11-6 11-7.
Only last month, Quadri overcame Assar his longtime rival, in the final of the 2017 ITTF Africa Cup to qualify for the World Cup in France.
Quadri who played without a coach in that final may still meet Assar in the singles event of the tournament.

The ITTF Nigeria Open is taking place at Molade Okoya Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
