Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team defeated Malawi by 86 runs to finish top of Group B of the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) Africa World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda.

The team’s victory over the East Africans makes it three wins in as many games. Nigeria had defeated Tanzania and Zimbabwe in the first two games of the group.

The impeccable results set the team up for a contentious semifinal clash with Rwanda, who finished second in Group A.

In the Gahanga B cricket oval game, Nigeria won the toss and opted to bat first.

In defence of their score, Nigeria limited the East Africans to 61 runs all out in 18.1 overs.

The ICC women’s U-19 Africa World Cup qualifier started on September 22 and will conclude seven days later. Only the top team will earn a ticket to represent the continent at the World Cup in Malaysia 2025.
