Nigeria records zero COVID-19 deaths for third consecutive day

Nigeria’s single-day count of coronavirus infections remained relatively low while no deaths were reported for the third straight day.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 30 new cases in its update for May 8, 2021.

Lagos state topped the list with 21 fresh infections, followed by Adamawa with eight, and Rivers with one.

According to the NCDC, 796 people were discharged on Saturday after recovering from the infection — including a backlog of 795 community recoveries in Adamawa state managed in line with guidelines.

A total number of 156,250 recoveries have now been recorded.

The agency reported zero deaths from COVID-19 complications on Saturday, which keeps the total number of fatalities at 2,065.

Lagos has the highest number of casualties with 439 deaths, followed by Edo with 185 and FCT with 166.

Since the index case of COVID-19 on February 27, 2020, a total of 165,370 infections have now confirmed across 36 states and the FCT.
