Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says those behind the election violence in the state on Saturday will be dealt with.

In a statement issued by Kunle Somorin, Abiodun’s media aide, the governor accused the opposition party of being the mastermind of the violence.

Abiodun said reports of the violence came as a shock as elections across the state started on a peaceful note.

He said rather than having a seamless voting exercise, the opposition turned the process into a do-or-die affair while noting that normalcy returned to affected areas when security agents swiftly contained the situation.

The APC candidate said that the government would deal with individuals or groups behind the polls disruption, snatching off ballot boxes, and attacks on voters.

He urged residents of the state to be law-abiding and remain calm, warning that the state government would apprehend anyone found responsible for inciting violence.

“The law will take care of those caught to serve as a deterrent to their paymasters and their wards for violating the peaceful atmosphere that Ogun is noted for,’’ Abiodun said in the statement.

Elected in 2019, Abiodun is seeking re-election, and he is facing opposition from Ladi Adebutu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
