#NigeriaDecides2023: Ogundamisi asks ‘Obidients’ to seek legal action over alleged irregularities

Kayode Ogundamisi Kayode Ogundamisi

Kayode Ogundamisi, a political commentator, has advised supporters of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), to seek justice via legal means for alleged irregularities in the electoral process.

Obi’s supporters are known as ‘Obidients’.

TheCable had reported that the Labour Party rejected the result of the presidential election held in Badagry LGA in Lagos.

The party claimed that its agent was forced to sign the LGA’s result at gunpoint.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Ogundamisi urged the supporters to build on the success of the ‘Obident’ movement by reaching out to other areas ahead of future elections.

He said there is a need for trans-regional alliances in Nigerian presidential elections due to the country’s “complex” political structure and ethno-religious diversity.

“Now for the Obidient movement. This is a welcome development to Nigeria’s political space. Young people (Particularly young urbane people of Southern Nigeria) must now push to be different and form further alliances in the North, stop that arrogance that you speak for everyone,” Ogundamisi said.

“The NGO messianic complex of mainly eloquent, social media-exposed Southern NIGERIA based individuals need to change. Lessons must be learnt on how young persons in other regions shouted less but voted across parties with little infractions. Learn about other cultures/morals.

“The choices are clear for the Obi supporters, build on the unprecedented success of your movement by seeking justice via legal means whilst consolidating on reaching out to other areas towards future elections. Holding the incoming government to account from DAY 1.

“You could however consider the popular option being circulated, mass action and shut down of the country (This might be successful in one region as it was during EndSars). This time, manage the consequence better. Note there will be opposing voices on the streets too.
