#NigeriaDecides2023: Voting disrupted as armed ‘thugs’ destroy election materials in Bayelsa

Some suspected thugs have destroyed election materials in Bayelsa state.

The voting materials were destroyed by the thugs at wards two, three, and four in the house of assembly election in constituency two, Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa.

The armed thugs reportedly invaded the poling units, chased voters away, and set some of the voting materials ablaze.

Butswat Asinim, the police spokesperson in Bayelsa, confirmed the incident to TheCable.

He said voting has stopped at the affected polling units, adding that effort is on to arrest the perpetrators.

“We were able to retrieve some of the voting materials,” he said. “Effort is on to get the perpetrators arrested.”

Meanwhile, Duoye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, has condemned the incident.

The governor through Daniel Alabrah, his chief press secretary, asked the police to ensure that the attackers are arrested and made to face justice.

Diri asked residents to maintain decorum while exercising their franchise.
