Nigerian army recruits 6,251 soldiers to fight insecurity

The Nigerian Army has recruited 6,251 new intakes to confront the country’s security challenges.

According to NAN, Faruk Yahaya, chief of army staff, disclosed the figure during the passing-out parade of the 84 regular recruits intake on Saturday in Zaria, Kaduna.

Yahaya said the recruitment is informed by the determination of the armed force to fill its manpower void and effectively check insecurity in the country.

He urged the recruits to embrace loyalty, selflessness and other qualities which he described as “the core values” of the army.

“Our determination to check the numerous security challenge informed our commitment and drive for increased recruitment in the Nigerian Army and additional boots on the ground to effectively discharge our mandate,” the COAS said.

“With the number of recruited persons out today over 6,000, indeed some of the additional manpower needed by the Nigerian army is already being met.

“The army with the support of the federal government will continue to do everything possible to surmount the various security challenges confronting the country until Nigeria becomes safe for all.

“The adoption of cyclic training, which allows each recruit to undergo every aspect of training, has made you a strong force to be reckoned with.

“You are expected to always do your utmost best to sustain these values through high professional standards in order to enhance your individual ability and our overall combat-readiness.

“I urge you to assimilate and retain the mental, physical and spiritual training given to you at this institution.”
