Nigerian-born Dosunmu resigns as UK council boss after ‘drink-driving, drug possession’ charges

Bayo Dosunmu, chief executive of Lambeth council in the UK, has resigned from his position.

The resignation takes effect on July 15, 2024.

On June 23, Dosunmu was arrested in the Westminster area in London for allegedly failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

According to the BBC, he has been charged to court for offences relating to possession of a class A controlled drug, driving over the alcohol limit, and driving without insurance.

Dosunmu is expected to appear before a Westminster magistrates’ court on August 1.

On Wednesday, Lambeth council announced in an X post that Dosunmu has resigned and that Fiona Connolly is the acting chief executive.

“Bayo Dosunmu has stepped down as Chief Executive of Lambeth Council with effect from Monday 15 July, 2024,” the statement said.

“Fiona Connolly is currently Acting Chief Executive and the Council will shortly begin the process to recruit a permanent Chief Executive.”

In April 2022, Dosunmu was appointed as chief executive of the council.

Before the appointment, he was the council’s deputy chief executive and strategic director for resident services.

He was previously the executive director at Homes England and served as assistant chief executive at  Homes and Communities Agency.
