Nigerian firm among 15 finalists for Prince William’s environment prize

Reeddi, a Nigerian renewable energy company, is among the 15 finalists for Prince William’s Earthshot Prize for environmental innovation.

The firm was shortlisted for its innovation — Reeddi Capsules, a solar-powered energy capsule that makes electricity affordable and accessible in energy-poor communities.

The Earthshot Prize was launched by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in October 2020. It aims to mobilise collective action around the unique ability to innovate, solve problems and repair the planet.

Announcing the finalists on Friday, Prince William said: “I am honoured to introduce the 15 innovators, leaders, and visionaries who are the first-ever finalists for the Earthshot Prize.

Earthshot, regarded as the most prestigious environment prize in history, seeks to provoke innovation and leadership to tackle the challenges posed by climate change and the threats to the oceans, air, and land.

Commenting on its nomination, Reeddi said: “As one of the global finalists, we are thrilled to see our work to #FixOurClimate recognized alongside so many other incredible solutions.”
