Nigerian footballer racks up 100,000 retweets for tryout opportunity at Sevilla

OlaGreat Oladipupo, an amateur Nigerian footballer, has racked up 100,000 retweets to get a tryout opportunity at Sevilla FC.

The life-changing story started on Monday when the footballer tweeted at the Spanish club’s official X account and asked, “How many reposts for a tryout with your team?”

Sevilla replied that a minimum of “100” retweets of the club’s response would be enough to get the footballer to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for a trial.

The retweets started raking in from then on with support and publicity from numerous influential personalities on X.

A little over 24 hours later, the post crossed the required threshold of retweets. The tweet has over 123,000 retweets as of the time of filing this report.

However, Sevilla are yet to respond since the target was achieved.

Ola played for Superstar FC in the 2024 Lagos Liga, a competition organised for amateur clubs in the state.

Sevilla have recently set their eyes on Nigerian talent. In 2024, the club signed Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke.

Between those purchases, Sevilla signed a “collaborative agreement” with the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL). The deal aims to aid football development in Nigeria.

Sevilla promised that the club would “provide advice in sporting and other areas of development, with a special focus on coach training and developing the talent of young Nigerian players”.
