Nigerian journalists can win cash and smart phones

The Journalism Clinic in conjunction with Technology Times, an online publication which focuses on ICT, are organising a multimedia story competition that would afford journalists in Nigeria the opportunity to win cash prizes ranging from N25,000 to N50,000 and smart phones.

According to the organisers, the idea of the competition was conceived after Shina Baduru, founder of Technology Times, made a comment on how “black marketers”, who make so much profit during fuel scarcity, survive when scarcity is over.

“I have often wondered what those able-bodied men and women who hawk ‘black market’ petrol during fuel scarcity retire to once the problem disappears,” Baduru wrote on Facebook.

Interested participants are expected to present an insightful story on the theme and also address Baduru’s question.

“Present an insightful, delightful multimedia story which takes us into Nigeria’s ‘fuel black market’,” the organisers said in a statement.

“It is open to all Nigerian journalists, freelance or those working full-time, and must be submitted on or before midnight on 9 July 2016.

“We expect the story to answer Mr Badaru’s question and more. Yes, extend it to the petrol stations’ attendants.
