Nigerian players suffer first round exit at Chamberlain Squash Open

Nigerian players have failed to qualify for the quarter-final stage of the Chamberlain Squash Open in Lagos.

In both women and men’s category, Egypt defeated Nigeria to sail through to the quarter-final on Wednesday.

Babatunde Ajagbe, Nigeria’s number one squash player, was beaten by Egypt’s Mohammed Reda in a three-game set of 11-6, 12-11, 11-4.

Yemisi Olatunji, women’s defending champion, was defeated 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 by Egypt’s Menna Hamed.

Meanwhile, Adewale Amao, a US-based Nigerian player, fell to another Egyptian, Karim El Hammamy.

The tournament’s top seed, Egyptian Zahed Mohammed, defeated Czech Republic’s Daniel Mekbib three sets to one.

Female top seed Britain’s Millie Tomlinson beat Nigeria’s Rofiat Abdulazeez 11-5, 11-2, 11-6.
