A Nigerian identified as Yahaya Nafiu, has solicited financial support after his wife gave birth to 11 babies in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Nafiu serves as the missioner of the Ilorin Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) in Port Novo, Ajasse, and Cotonou.
According to Premium Times, the 56-year-old said his wife, Alake Latoyosi, gave birth to the babies in two batches.
The missioner said six of the babies were delivered on August 7, while the rest arrived seven days later.

He said his 54-year-old wife carried the pregnancy for over three years.
Nafiu said she gave birth to eight males and three females, adding that two of the girls died during childbirth.
“A few days after the delivery of the first set of children, my wife said she felt strange movements in her stomach,” he said.

“After a scan was carried out at the hospital, the doctor revealed that she was carrying another set of children, which led them to contact the initial birth attendant, and the next set of five babies was delivered.”
Nafiu said the position of the babies could not be determined, resulting in the doctors being unable to conduct a caesarian operation.
He added that he had other children before the birth of the decuplets and that his wife also had children from a previous marriage.
Commenting on the development, Abdulmumini Abdulmalik, national president of IEDPU, said history was repeating itself.

Abdulmalik said Nafiu is from Onikeke compound in the Popo Giwa area of Ilorin.
“History is repeating itself in Ilorin. A few years after the end of World War 1, about a century ago, history was made in Ilorin when a woman gave birth to decuplets (10 babies at a single birth),” he said.
“While welcoming the decuplets and congratulating the parents on this uncommon blessing, we rejoice with Mai Martaba, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, during whose reign this glorious history of an Ilorin indigene having decuplets is repeating itself.”
Abdulmalik implored the government and members of the Ilorin emirate to assist Nafiu with funds to provide for his family.
