‘Nigerians now look up to us for direction’ — PDP upholds election of new executives in Kano

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says Nigerians now look up to them for direction.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s national publicity secretary, said this on Thursday, in a statement upholding the election of new executives for the Kano chapter of the PDP.

The party conducted its congress on December 12 across the 44 local government areas of the state.

Ologbondiyan said the congress was “smoothly conducted” in line with the party’s constitution and observed by members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The decision of the NWC is pursuant to its powers under the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended).

The party’s spokesman said no petition was submitted to the appeal committee after the election, and commended the stakeholders for their cooperation.

He also explained that the newly-elected executives headed by Shehu Wada Sagagi will lead the state chapter for four years.

“Also, as reported by the Appeals Committee, there was no petition received, thereby confirming the congress as conducted and all elected officers therefrom,” Ologbondiyan said.

“The newly elected Kano executive which has Shehu Wada Sagagi, as Chairman is to hold office for a period of four years in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution.

“The NWC commends all critical stakeholders as well as members of our party in Kano state for the unity and harmony in the state chapter and urged them to remain united and continue to work together for the task ahead, especially as Nigerians now look up to our party for direction at this critical time in the history of our nation.”

The development comes after a factional group of the PDP in Kano expelled Rabiu Kwankwaso from the party over allegations of anti-party activities.

The faction also elected Muhammina Lamido and Garba Gezawa as Kano PDP chairman and secretary, respectively.
