Folasade Adefisayo, Lagos state commissioner for education, says there is a need to overhaul the learning system in the country.

She made the comment while speaking as a guest of honour during the 17th valedictory service and graduation ceremony of the Class of 2022, Wellspring College, Lagos.

The commissioner said a revamp of the nation’s educational system is long overdue and that it has to be more innovative and interesting.

“I believe learning should be fun for our children. Every aspect of school should be a source of learning. Nothing will change until parents stand up against this stereotypical educational system we have today,” she said.

Adefisayo applauded the Wellspring College administration for expanding learning beyond the classroom and for skillfully fostering leaders exposed to a variety of relevant skills that will provide the students with the necessary advantage in society.

In his address, Andrew Ojei, non-executive director, Titan Trust Bank Plc, who was the chairman of the occasion, said education should be made more practical and meaningful to align with the 21st-century learning style.

He noted that Nigeria’s educational system is too stereotyped and urged stakeholders to do the needful to effect a drastic change.

Emmanuel Isimoya, a board member of the college, reiterated Wellspring’s commitment to educating the total child.

“Our vision is to go beyond academics and groom our students to compete favourably on the global stage. We have remodelled our curriculum by integrating leadership, entrepreneurship and tech skills as central aspects of their learning. The students graduating today are worthy ambassadors of the school,” Isimoya said.
