NIMC: Nigerians to pay N15,000 for date of birth modification

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says national identification number (NIN) holders will pay N15,000 to correct their date of births in the commission’s database.

Funmi Opesanwo, the NIMC regional coordinator, announced this on Wednesday at the commission’s office in Alausa, Lagos.

Emphasizing that NIN enrolment is free, she noted that card renewal, correction of date of birth and change of address attract fees.

“For the date of birth correction, there is a processing fee of N15,000. For card renewal or card replacement, there is a processing fee of N5,000. For the modification of address or name, it is N500. So, people misconstrue this to mean that in NIMC they are asking them to pay money. No, those are for services,” she said.

Opesanwo also said the fees are payable to the treasury single account (TSA) of the federal government.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had earlier given telecommunications companies a two-week ultimatum to block SIM cards not registered with NIN.

FG subsequently extended the period for subscribers with NIN to link their SIM cards to January 19, 2021, while those without NIN now have till February 9, 2021, to register and link their SIM cards.

Recently, the FG launched the NIMC mobile app that enables subscribers to link their NIN with “up to six extra” phone numbers.
