The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) says over 20 states in the country will experience three-day thunderstorms from Tuesday to Thursday.
The agency made the prediction in its weather outlook released in Abuja on Monday.
NiMet said there would be cloudiness and a later appearance of sunshine at intervals in the northern part of the country.
According to the projection, there would be thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi and Kaduna states in the morning hours.

The agency said cloudiness would be experienced over the inland cities of the south and the coastal states.
It said there are possibilities of thunderstorms during the morning hours in parts of Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and Cross River states.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Imo, Abia, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Ondo, Oyo, Anambra, Enugu, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states.

“Further into the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba and Kaduna states,” the forecast reads.
“Thunderstorms are expected over parts of Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Kogi and Benue states, and Akwa Ibom states.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are envisaged over parts of Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Niger and Nasarawa states.”
The agency added that Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe will experience cloudy skies on Wednesday, with periods of sunshine in the morning, while a thunderstorm is expected in Bauchi, Kaduna and Zamfara states during the day.

“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the North Central region with thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kogi and Benue states in the morning hours,” the agency said.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are envisaged over parts of Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa states.
“Cloudy atmosphere is expected over inland cities of South and coastal belt with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Enugu, Awka, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Lagos states in the morning hours.”
NiMet predicted thunderstorms and rainfall over parts of Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, Lagos, Delta and Akwa Ibom states later in the day.

“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory and Plateau states,” the agency added.
“Cloudy atmosphere is expected over the inland cities of the South and the coastal states with few thunderstorms over parts of Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states in the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Enugu, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa states.”
The agency warned of moderate to heavy rainfall that could cause flash floods in parts of the country.

NiMet further urged members of the public to be cautious and adhere to safety measures as intense wind could follow the thunderstorm.
