NiMet predicts three days of sunny skies, dust haze across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and hazy conditions across the country from Saturday to Monday.

In its weather outlook released on Friday, NiMet predicted a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern region throughout the forecast period.

According to the agency, moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km is anticipated over the north-central and the inland areas of the south throughout the forecast region.

NiMet said the coastal belt will experience early morning mist and fog patches, with partly cloudy skies in a hazy atmosphere prevailing over the area throughout the forecast period.

Isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Rivers and Bayelsa states during the afternoon and evening hours.

NiMet predicted patches of cloud in a hazy atmosphere over the inland areas of the south and the coast throughout the forecast period.

“For Sunday, sunny skies and hazy atmosphere is anticipated over the northern region all through the forecast period,” the forecast reads.

“The north-central should experience slight dust haze throughout the forecast period.

“Hazy atmosphere with few patches of cloud should prevail over the Inland states with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Imo, Abia and Edo state during the afternoon and evening hours.

“Early morning mist and fog patches are anticipated over the coastal belt, while hazy atmosphere with few patches of clouds should prevail over the area during the rest of the forecast period.

“Children and the elderly should wear warm clothing at night. Special attention should be paid to your skin, eyes and lips.”

NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions and asked persons with respiratory ailments to protect themselves.

Airline operators were also advised to avail themselves of weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
