The Rivers house of assembly has invited nine commissioner nominees for screening and confirmation as members of the state executive council.
The nine commissioner nominees are those who resigned from the cabinet of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state, last year.
In December 2023, a gale of resignations hit Fubara’s cabinet with at least nine commissioners resigning their positions on the back of the political crisis in the state.
The resignation of the commissioners was against the backdrop of the feud between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).

The 8-POINT PEACE DEAL
On December 18, Fubara and Wike agreed to end the political feud between them after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
During the meeting with Tinubu, Fubara, Wike and other Rivers stakeholders signed an eight-point resolution.
Part of the resolution was that Martin Amaewhule should be recognised as speaker, while the 27 lawmakers who defected should be taken back as members of the assembly.

They also agreed that Fubara should re-tender the state budget to a properly constituted house of assembly.
It was also agreed that the names of all commissioners in the Rivers state executive council, who resigned their appointments due to the political crisis in the state, be resubmitted to the house of assembly for approval.
