Nine members of the Kano house of assembly, on Friday, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
The lawmakers announced their defection in letters sent to Hamisu Chidari, speaker of Kano house of assembly.
Uba Abdullahi, media aide to the speaker, in a statement, said the speaker congratulated the lawmakers and wished them well after officially receiving their letters of defection.
The members who defected to NNPP are listed as Isyaku Ali-Danja, representing Gezawa; Umar Musa-Gama, representing Nassarawa; Aminu Sa’adu-Ungogo, representing Ungogo; and Lawal Hussaini representing Dala.

Others are Tukur Muhammad, representing Fagge; Mu’azzam El-Yakub, representing Dawakin Kudu; Garba Fammar, representing Kubiya; Abubakar Galadima, representing Bebeji; and Mudassir Zawaciki, representing Kumbotso.
Amid the lawmakers’ defection to the NNPP, there has been crisis within the state over leadership tussle in the Kano PDP.
The PDP national working committee had, in March 2022, dissolved the state, local and ward executives, while a seven-member caretaker committee was appointed to run the affairs of the party.

But on May 2, the state executive committee was reinstated.
