The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says its operatives arrested 90 foreign nationals over alleged involvement in cybercrime in Rivers.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Y.I. Abdulmajeed, the state’s NIS comptroller, said the arrests were effected in collaboration with other security agencies.

Abdulmajeed added that the operation, which followed an intelligence report, led officers to the suspects’ hideouts.

“The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has arrested 90 illegal immigrants for cybercrimes committed to defrauding innocent Nigerians,” he said.

He added that all 90 foreigners entered Nigeria through unauthorised points and did not have travel documents or residence cards.

The comptroller said two Nigerians, who allegedly provided accommodation for the suspects, were also arrested.

Abdulmajeed added that Kemi Nandap, NIS comptroller-general, has ordered a prompt and thorough investigation of the incident.
